2016-17 Avant Dance Company Auditions: Saturday, August 20, 2016 11:00 am
Dancers auditioning should attend Charles Roy and/orArielle Elonys Coker workshops in August.
All dancers check in at 10:30 am. Audition will begin at 11:00 am. Dancers who attended the June audition do not need to attend.
Dancers are to wear all black (leotard or top & shorts )
Bring ballet shoes, jazz shoes, sneakers or hip-hop boots, and lyrical paws.
Girls' hair should be pulled away from the face and should be in a bun for the turn combinations.
Dancers check in at the assigned time, fill out the audition form, receive a number, and warm up on their own in Studio B.
Dancers will be given a jazz combination, a ballet turn combination, a grande allegro, and a hip-hop combo.
A panel of teachers will make selections for company dancers and apprentices .
Avant Dance strives to make the audition process as professional as possible so that dancers become comfortable with the audition process as it is an essential part of the dance world.
Avant Dance Mini Company dancers (age 6 - 9) are required to take at least 2 classes in ballet , 1 tap, 1 lyrical/jazz, and 1 hip-hop class per week in addition to company classes on Saturdays.
Avant Dance Junior Company dancers (age 10-12) are required to take at least 3 ballet, 1 tap, 1 jazz, 1 contemporary, 1 leaps/turns, and 1 hip-hop class per week in addition to Company classes on Saturdays.
Avant Dance Teen/Senior dancers (age 13-20) are required to take at least 3 hours of ballet, 1 tap, 1 jazz, 2 contemporary, 1 leap/turns, and 2 hip-hop classes per week in addition to company classes on Saturdays .
Avant Dance Hip-Hop Company dancers are required to attend 2 hip-hop classes, 1 jazz funk, 1 tap class and 2 other technique classes per week in addition to Company Classes on Saturdays as needed (schedule will be subject to change). The Hip-Hop Company Auditions will be held in September.
Mini and Junior dancers are required to attend Showstopper Convention and Showstopper Competition and MA. Elite Mini and Junior Company dancers are required to attend and compete in Showstopper Competition, Bailando, MA, JUMP, NUVO, and NYCDA.
Teen and Senior dancers are required to attend Showstoppers Convention and Competition (including National Finals for all numbers earning double platinum or crystal awards at Regionals), MA, Bailando, NYCDA, JUMP, & NUVO Convention and Competition.
The Avant Dance faculty may choose a company and an elite company in each age group. Only Elite Company members are allowed to perform solos, duos, and trios. Dancers not selected for the elite company may be elevated to elite membership through hard work and technical advancement.
Final fees for all conventions and competitions are due 45 days prior to the event, with deposit payments paid monthly beginning in June. In addition to the prices (listed online for each venue) there is a studio administration fee. A list of fees will be available at the audition. Dancers with tuition payments not in good standing will not be elgible to compete with the Avant Dance Company.
