2022-2023 Competition Company audition information:
July 18, 2022: Ages 13-19 – check in 4:00pm. Audition 4:30-6:00pm.
July 19, 2022: Ages 7-12 – check in 4:00pm. Audition 4:30-6:00pm

A make up audition will be held Friday, August 12, 2022 (5:00-7:00pm) for those unable to audition in July.

COMPETITION COMPANY CLASS REQUIREMENTS

Avant Mini Performance Company dancers (age 6.5-10) 
are required to take a minimum of:
~1 ballet ~1 tap ~ 1 lyrical/jazz ~ 1 hip hop
~Company rehearsals on Fridays or Saturdays (dependent upon casting)
~Dancers are encouraged to add additional ballet classes.

Avant Mini Competition Company dancers (age 7-9) 
are required to a minimum of:
~ 2 ballet  ~ 1 tap ~ 1 lyrical ~ 1 jazz ~ 1 leaps & turns ~ 1 hip hop
~ Company rehearsals on Fridays or Saturdays (dependent upon casting)
~ Mini dancers are encouraged to musical theatre and additional ballet classes.

Avant Junior Company & Apprentice Company dancers (age 10-12) regardless of casting, are required to take a minimum of:
~ 3 ballet ~ 1 tap ~ 1 jazz ~ 1 contemporary
~ 1 leaps/turns ~ 1 hip-hop ~ 1 musical theater or ballroom
~ Pointe/Pre Pointe does NOT count toward one of the three ballet requirements
~ Company rehearsals on Saturdays
~ Junior dancers are encouraged to add pointe/pre-pointe and additional technique classes.

Avant Teens & Seniors & Apprentice Company dancers (age 13-18) regardless of casting, are required to take a minimum of:
~ 3 ballet ~ 1 jazz ~ 1 contemporary ~ 1 leaps/turns
~ 1 tap ~ 1 hip hop ~1 musical theater or ballroom
~ Pointe/Pre Pointe does NOT count toward one of the three ballet requirements
~ Company rehearsals on Saturdays

Avant Hip Hop Company dancers regardless of casting, are required to take a minimum of:
~ 2 hip hop ~ 1 musical theater or ballroom ~ 1 jazz or contemporary or lyrical

~Dancers competing in multiple numbers may have additional rehearsal fees applied~

Competition Company Classes by audition only.
Tap and Hip Hop numbers will be by invitation only.
All dancers who join the Competition Company will be required to attend all conventions and competitions no matter which dances they are cast in.

Requirements:
Must have the ability to fulfill all financial and time obligations.
Must be able to travel to multiple competitions in San Antonio, Austin or Houston.
Must apply enthusiasm & eagerness in learning & growth while attending classes & rehearsals alongside teammates.
Dancer can & will be removed from a dance routine, performance, or from the team if displaying disrespect, inappropriate behavior, bad sportsmanship to others & instructors. Failure to attend rehearsals prior to competition or convention will result in removal from one or more routines.

Dancers will be expected to wear all black attire to every rehearsal.
Rehearsal schedule will be dependent upon casting. ALL rehearsals are mandatory.
Competition, convention and performance schedule will be released at the beginning of the season.

Company Auditions: July 18, July 19
Fall classes start: August 8, 2022

2021-2022 Company Audition Details:

Audition Times:
Ages 5-6: check in at 10:30am. Audition from 11:00-11:30pm.
Ages 7-9: check in at 11:15pm.  Audition from 11:45-12:30pm.
Ages 10-12: check in at 12:15pm. Audition from 12:45-1:45pm.
Ages 13-18: check in at 1:30pm. Audition from 2:00-3:00pm.

There is a $10.00 Audition Fee.

What to Wear:
Dancers are to wear all black (leotard or top & shorts or leggings).
Bring ballet shoes, jazz shoes and contemporary shoes. No socks. Bare feet okay.
Hair should be in a bun or short hair pulled away from the face.

Process:
Dancers check in at the assigned time, fill out the audition form, receive a number, and warm up on their own in Studio B.

Dancers may be given a jazz, lyrical or a ballet combo. Dancers will be asked to show balance and control. Flexibility and skills such as pirouettes will also be assessed. A panel of teachers will select apprentice dancers and company dancers. Avant Dance strives to make the audition process as professional as possible so that dancers become comfortable with the audition process as it is an essential part of the dance world.
